Bonita Canyon Trail Description

Overview

The Bonita Canyon Trail is a 3.4-mile side path along Culver Drive and Bonita Canyon Drive linking the Orange County cities of Irvine and Newport Beach.

About the Route

From its northern end at the intersection of Campus Dr & Culver Dr in Irvine, the side path follows along the east side of Culver Drive south to Shady Canyon Drive. Crossing Shady Canyon Drive and Bonita Canyon Drive, the route continues southwest along the west side of Bonita Canyon Drive to MacArthur Boulevard.

The Bonita Canyon Trail connects residential communities, parks, and a few shopping areas. The southern end of the path is across the street from Bonita Canyon Sports Park. There is trail signage and trail safety signs along the route.

Connections

Near the route's midpoint, pick up the Shady Canyon Trail to head northeast to the scenic Quail Hill Preserve and to connect to the Turtle Rock Trail.

Alternatively, continue on the sidewalk past University High School to reach the popular University Trail from the Bonita Canyon Trail's northern endpoint.

The Bonita Canyon Trail and these other trails are all part of Irvine's extensive trail network, offering additional opportunities for recreation and transport.

Parking and Trail Access

The Bonita Canyon Trail runs between the intersection of Campus Dr & Culver Dr (Irvine) and the intersection of Bonita Canyon Dr & MacArthur Blvd (Newport Beach).

There is no designated parking available along the trail, but parking may be available on local neighborhood streets. Be sure to obey any posted parking restrictions.

Good luck

Bonita Creek Trail

Transients now live in wooded creek bed. They leave feces, broken bottles, cigarette butts and trash in and around the trail. I’ve seen copious amounts of graffiti on the trail and in the flood control wash. It would be great if the NEWPORT Police Department would patrol the trails once in a while. Newport city should clean up the graffiti and trash.

Great Hike...not anymore!

This use to be a great hike and trail. But people have decided that their graffiti looked good here and ruined the scenery.
