Part of an expansive revitalization effort that the city of Spartanburg has undertaken to improve the economic and ecological well-being of the Northside neighborhood, the Butterfly Branch Greenway provides a huge transformation in taking land that was previously overgrown and underused and turning it into a beautiful green space, with a paved trail running alongside the now daylighted creek. The creek was commonly known to locals as the "Nasty Branch," but it has now been christened as the Butterfly Creek after the major redevelopment effort to bring the creek back to the surface and surround it with trail and park space. Although not impressive in length, the trail offers an excellent place for nearby residents to get outside and enjoy a nice stroll or leisurely bike ride, and it will serve as a great resource in the city's developing network of trails and greenways -- the Daniel Morgan Trail System.
Parking may be available across the street from the greenway entrance at the medical school; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations. The trail is located on College Street, just west of Howard Street in Spartanburg.
