Southport Road Path follows the south side of Southport Road from Cedar Springs Road to South Avenue. Heading west from Cedar Springs Road, the multi-use path passes the 295 Sports Complex, a DMV office and a water treatment plant before ending near a fire station at South Avenue. The terrain is generally long, rolling hills.
From downtown Spartanburg, take Union Street for about 2.5 miles. Then bear right onto Cedar Springs Road, which intersects shortly with Southport Road. Take a right on Southport Road. Park at 295 Sports Complex on the left.
On the plus side: parking and access are easy, the trail is straight. Unfortunately, the negatives outweigh the positives: the trail is straight, along a major highway with no shade, it is poorly maintained (overgrown) and littered with broken glass. The title says it all... Spartanburg is blessed with many good trails, but this isn't one of them...there are better trails.
