Central City Trail (IN) Description

Central City Trail runs right through the heart of the northern Indiana city of Goshen, connecting to the 17-mile Pumpkinvine Nature Trail on its northern end and Goshen College on its southern end. In between, the paved path also provides access to Goshen Public Library, Chandler Elementary School, and Goshen High School, making it a helpful route for students.

The northern half of the trail has an urban feel, paralleling downtown streets and passing many businesses and restaurants. Its southern half traverses pleasant, tree-filled neighborhoods.

In addition to the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, two other trail connections are possible. Near the north end of the trail, one can access Millrace Trail by heading west 6 blocks along E. Washington Street to where that trail begins on the border of Shanklin Park. Or, at the southern end of the Central City Trail, the Winona Interurban Trail picks up in Goshen College and heads south.

Parking and Trail Access

Mid-trail, parking is available at Goshen Public Library (601 South 5th Street).

Near its northern end, parking is also available in Abshire Park (1302 E. Lincoln Avenue). To reach the trail from the park, exit the park on its west side and follow the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail south and then west for one mile until you reach the crossing at the active railroad tracks; pick up the Central City Trail on the other side of the tracks at the intersection of E. Pike Street and N. 5th Street.

Central City Trail (IN) Reviews

trail to nowhere??

This trail is very poorly marked through the downtown area. No directional signs or designated bike lanes. I was completely confused about where I should be biking- street or sidewalk? Connecting to the pumpkinvine trail took a lot of guess work and stopping to check my google map.
