Print Friendly MapThe Charles Street Community Path offers a neighborhood route through southeastern Rockford, connecting residents to CherryVale Mall on its eastern end. On its western end, Alpine Park is just north of the trail's terminus, offering recreational amenities. The trail also provides access to AC Thompson Elementary School.
Nearby parking may be found at: CherryVale Mall (7200 Harrison Avenue), AC Thompson Elementary School (4949 Marion Avenue), and Alpine Park (950 South Alpine Road).
The Park District has the necessary equipment to blow the debris off the path once or twice a year. I quit riding it. Too much junk begging me to have a flat tire
I rode this path from the western end near Alpine Rd. to a side street detour to the Cherry Valley trails. Part of the path was partially obstructed by overgrowth, but it was otherwise in good shape. Funny thing was, on the way out, it seemed mostly downhill and I thought I was going to have to really work hard to get back. But when I actually turned around, except for a few little hills, it felt like it was downhill! Surprising. I've heard they will be connecting this trail to the Perryville Path. I'm looking forward to that! Path is fine for road bikes.
Very enjoyable ride. The path is overall in decent condition. Starting to show a little wear in a few spots. Nothing 'fancy' on this particular trail but it is more than adequate. It does go thru a neighborhood and there are frequent road crossings but stop signs are well marked and the line of sight is clear. Certainly doable for for the beginner to intermediate rider.
