Chico Airport Bike Path Description

This linear trail through the northern sections of bike-friendly Chico runs on the abandoned Sacramento Northern Railway right-of-way. The trail marks the northernmost stretch of the former railroad, which once ran commuter service from Chico to Oakland and San Francisco via Sacramento. Farther south in Chico, the Midway Bike Path occupies another portion of the same corridor.

The Chico Airport Bike Path extends from just north of downtown to Chico Municipal Airport on the northern edge of the city. A designated bike route on Oleander Avenue provides access to downtown and California State University, Chico (Chico State).

Parking and Trail Access

There are no official parking areas for the trail, but parking can generally be found on-street at the end of Cohasset Lane, near the trail's southern terminus.

Chico Airport Bike Path Reviews

Other than the homeless and the just plain obnoxious people the route is great and I have been riding this route for many years. Recently the rest area at the top entering the airport was destroyed, and with the hot weather this could be a problem for some less fit riders!

If you dive down the Esplanade, and then turn onto Cohasset Road, look to the right for Cohasset Lane, there are some apartment and medical building off on this side road, I didn’t find any problem when I park there and your are only about 300 feet from the Chico Nut Company, and the best part, is there is a tie in the trail. Big Al Drive in is at W 9th Avenue and Esplanade,

The one thing you want to be very careful as the crosswalks are not marked, and the drives can be a little aggressive, if you keep a weather eye out you should have a good time.

For an older person as myself, it was a fun ride.

Surface in fine condition. No shade from Airport to Eaton Rd.
From the North, cross Eaton Rd on crosswalk & turn right to rejoin trail.
Path has lights from Eaton Rd to East St. Active use by locals.
Parking at Airport end & Commercial lots south end. Noel Keller 5 Jun 10
