Residents enjoy getting outside and onto this popular Urbandale trail thanks to its ease and connectivity to neighborhoods, parks and other trails. The trail begins just above Douglas Avenue, crossing the roadway below grade before meandering in tandem with the North Walnut Creek for about 3 miles up to its termination point near University Avenue. The other major road crossing at Hickman Road is also below grade.
The trail connects to the Walnut Creek trail at its southern endpoints, while the Clive Greenbelt Trail comes from the west to merge with the other two trails.
Parking and restrooms are available at the Walker Johnston Park (9000 Douglas Avenue, Urbandale) right up close to the northern end of the trail.
This is a short trail but great for children. Very scenic, amongst woods and a creek and lots of wildlife including a family of deer. Baskin Robins is off the trail if you want to stop for an ice cream.
