1.5 miles in length, the Crossways Trail is one of a growing number of shorter multiuse trails linking the Philadelphia suburbs. The greenway is suited for cycling and walking while horseback riding is permitted on the segment in the Crossways Preserve.
About the Route
The trail follows a roughly west to east route across Montgomery County's Whitpain Twp., leaving in the south from a residential community west of Montgomery County Community College. After looping around athletic fields, the trail forms as asphalt ribbon across the south side of the campus. After crossing Morris and Cathcart roads just, the trail's surface switches to crushed stone upon entering the Crossways Preserve. This 57-acre mainly wooded open space is a haven for wildlife and birds, deer and other animals are a common sight. A couple sections of the trail in the preserve are elevated, passing over wetlands and small streams, and users also have the option of checking out its own network of nature paths.
East of the Crossways Preserve, the trail passes the Kindle Hill Horse Farm. Following a half mile onroad concurrency with Township Line Road, the trail goes back offroad and crosses Wissahickon Creek on a footbridge.
The Crossways Trail runs between Montgomery County Communiuty College, where parking is available, and Penllyn Woods.
Additional parking is available off Cathcart Rd. within the Crossways Preserve.
