Like the nearby Zecharias Creek and Limerick trails, the half-mile long Moran Trail is one of several shorter, municipality-based local paths in the north Philadelphia suburbs that are not part of the larger, Circuit network.
Situated in Worcester Twp. in Montgomery County, the multi-use path begins at the intersection of Grange Ave. and Mill Road and winds southeast to Kriebel Mill Road.
The trail's woodchip and dirt surface, along with the fact that it passes through woodlands for the first 2/3 of its route and between a horse pasture and the lawn of a large residence on the remaining third just north of Kriebel Mill Road, give it a "wild" vibe and the impression that it's in the countryside, not the suburbs of a major city. Although bike riding is allowed on the trail, the uneven surface can be difficult and wide tires are recommended. The woodchips, however, are ideal for horseback riding.
Although primarily a stand alone path, connections can be made from the Moran Trail to Methacton High School and Evansburg State Park via short walks along Kriebel Mill and Mill roads, respectively. A crosswalk across Grange Ave. at the trail's northern terminus suggests that it may eventually be extended into Evansburg State Park, directly linking to its internal network.
Parking is available at the trailheads off Grange Ave and Kriebel Mill Road.
