Following the Elkhart River through a 120-acre greenway, this multiuse trail provides a green oasis in the middle of the city. The greenway is home to deer, river otter, muskrat, beaver, coyote, fox, screech owls, nesting wood ducks, pileated woodpeckers, and numerous migrating species of birds.
The Elkhart River Greenway Trail winds for 1.9 miles through the greenway. At the southern end of the trail, the Elkhart Environmental Center has opportunities to learn about local wildlife, view eco-friendly building models, or take a yoga class. Studebaker Park is located at the northern end of the trail and is a popular place for picnicking or pick-up soccer games. Public restrooms are available are available at both ends of the trail.
There is an additional loop around American Park and Rice Park. The roads along this route are low-traffic and provide connections with the surrounding Elkhart neighborhoods.
Northwest of the trail, you can continue your adventure on the Elkhart RiverWalk Trail.
Parking is available at both trailheads. At the northern end of the trail, park by Studebaker Park (1020 McDonald St, Elkhart) and at the southern end of the trail, park by the Elkhart Environmental Center (1717 E Lusher Ave, Elkhart).
No bathrooms but plenty of parking! We'll kept trail. Nice short ride.
