The Fred Hudson Road Trail is a mixture of asphalt sidepath and wooded crushed stone trail, running from the outskirts of the quiet town of Ocean View to the even quieter scenic remove of the Delaware Seashore State Park. The trail provides nearby residents with safe and convenient access to the Fresh Pond area of the park, a popular site for area equestrians and birdwatchers - please note that the portion of the trail south of the Heron Road trailhead off of Highway 1 is off-limits to horses.
At the northern trailhead, you can continue your trip on the Prickly Pear Trail, which takes you further into the wetland area along its crushed stone and dirt path.
Parking, with accommodations for horse trailers, is available at the northern trailhead at the end of Hickman Road, east off of Cedar Neck Road in Ocean View. An additional lot is located west off of Coastal Highway 1 on the gravel road that continues across from Heron Road. Please note that the state park does charge a vehicle entrance fee.
Surprisingly pleasant trail - crushed stone/pine needle surface w/ plenty of shade. 1 mile out and back w/ ample parking at the trailhead. There are several other trails at the parking area as well. Flat and scenic stroll thru the pine woods and fresh pond waters. Most enjoyable!
