Hayward Pedestrian-Bike Trail Description

The community of Hayward boasts four miles of multi-use pathway looping through the northwest Wisconsin city. The trail winds from south to north, past residential and business areas, connecting to town amenities like schools, libraries and grocery stores.

Beginning on County Road B, the trail takes US 27 across Hayward Lake, affording views of up-and downstream of the reservoir. Turn left at Dyno Drive and continue parallel to it until it feeds into US-63. The trail sits sandwiched between the highway and Nursery Road as it heads southwest on a converted railroad bed, then curves right sharply to end up on Greenwood Lane. A bench and trash receptacle sit at the pivot point of the route. The pathway continues along the road before peeling off into the trees, emerging at Northern Waters Elementary School.

Proceed north through Hayward Middle School's athletic fields up to Johnson Avenue. Then it turns right, paralleling Johnson and 5th Streets, before making a sharp left onto Michigan Avenue. Here the trail travels in-between the Hayward Golf Course on one side and school athletic fields on the other. This brings users to Radio Hill Road. The trail follows that road to Nyman Avenue, where it begins heading north, and then south along State Route 77, past the local library to a stopping point near Hayward Court (Walmart).

Hayward Pedestrian-Bike Trail Reviews

Nice jaunt around town

Good paced sections. Can take Chippewa Trl from B to Wheeler Rd to meet up with HWY 77 and make it a loop.

Nice paved route through town

We are visiting from out of town and I was hopeful that this was a paved trail long enough to make it a good trail for early morning walks. There are other trails around, but the surfaces are grass or gravel and would be wet and/or slippery on damp mornings. This trail was exactly what I wanted. It’s more like 5.5 miles from start to finish and 6.5 if you finish loop back to the Walmart parking lot. My only complaint is that it is not marked in town, so having the map out the first time was important.
