The Highway 89 South Pedestrian Trail begins south of downtown Livingston and parallels U.S. Highway 89 for nearly 3 miles. Its southern end is adjacent to Carter’s Bridge and the trail is sometimes referred to as the Carter's Bridge Bike/Pedestrian Path. A wide grassy median separates the paved pathway from the roadway and the surrounding views are undeniably rural; you'll be traveling through open fields with forested foothills off in the distance to either side. The trail also loosely follows the Yellowstone River.
One day, the trail is hoped to extend farther south to Gardiner at the doorstep to Yellowstone National Park.
Parking is available a short distance from the southern end of the trail via on-road riding on East River Road to reach the Carters Bridge Fishing Access Site.
