If you ride a bike through trails at Pelham Bay Park by taking the Hutchinson River Parkway Greenway to Middletown Road and taking Middletown Road to Pelham Bay Park. This allows you to take an extra trail and enjoy more of Pelham Bay Park! If you keep right you can find a beach! This beach contains more safe water space than Orchard Beach.
I recently moved to the Bronx and as I bicycle rider, I was THRILLED to see how close I live to this greenway. I take it straight to work (it's approximately 4.5 miles, with ONLY .5 of those miles on the street!)
I only gave it 3 stars because it really needs to be cleaned. What agency is responsible for maintaining the greenway? Is there an organized group of volunteers who assist with the maintenance? If so, I would love to help out.
This weekend, May 4-5, 2013, I noticed a lot of bikeway-building activity along the parkway. Can anybody link me to some information?
Nicley paved, along the highway, its gotten better these last few years as they have cleaned up the over growth do to construction nearby. I have a video clip I took of it on youtube. Paste this link; http://youtu.be/qJyxDT66jnU or this title search at youtube; 6/10/10 Tues. 6:30 .am bike ride first leg along Hutchinson River Pky to Whitestone Bridge Part 1
