The Hutton Branch Trail follows a creek and active rail corridor through Carrollton, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas. The trail, portions of which are also known as the Purple Trail and Green Trail, connects residents with parks and the city’s Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) train station.
The trail begins in the north at Ward Steenson Park, which offers a playground, pavilion, drinking fountain and basketball court. At Jimmy Porter Park, the trail splits in two, with a spur traveling east to Kelly Boulevard and the main trail continuing southwest to Denton Drive. Midway along this section, W. J. Thomas Park features a picnic area, restrooms, tennis courts and Carrollton’s first splash park.
Carrollton plans to eventually extend the trail south along the DART Green Line to Crosby Road, passing closer to the train station and downtown entertainment district.
Parking for the Hutton Branch Trail is available at Ward Steenson Park on E. Jackson Road; Jimmy Porter Park on Sherwood Lane; and W. J. Thomas Park on Ryan Avenue.
