The Jones Beach Boardwalk traverses Jones Beach State Park, running parallel (and south of) Ocean Parkway. The pleasant pathway offers views of the beach and the ocean. Although bicycles are permitted, pedestrians have the right of way and bicyclists should dismount in crowded areas.
If you head north, crossing Ocean Parkway, you can also connect to two other trails: the Jones Beach Bikeway and the Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway.
Large parking lots are available withing Jones Beach State Park (1 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh, NY).
I prefer to travel out to Jones in the Fall and Winter months but this trail is great all year round. The board walk gets very crowded on the weekends and throughout the summer, however, the trail continues PAST the board walk (this trail map should be updated!) the concrete trail extends to the west end, there are paths that allow you to check out the fishing spots which require parking permits so being able to get there by bike for free is a plus. Just be aware that after memorial day you must pay $$$ for parking at Jones Beach, which is why I recommend this trail for the off season.
Ok but crowded
The trail along the boardwalk has been extended west by an asphalt path to the west end and to the nature preserve.
Thursday, August 09, 2018, 90'F and very humid.
After slogging through the ridiculous Long Island traffic, I rode here and the the other 2 connected trails, which are all nice. You reach the other 2 paths via tunnels under the highway from the Jones Beach parking lots. I have a hard time believing the boardwalk is 4 miles long though. Get nice and sweaty then go in the lovely, salty ocean waters.
