The Lake Max Trail follows a former rail corridor south through Culver and provides new community connections. Eight- to ten-feet-wide with a surface of concrete and asphalt, the multi-use trail is fully ADA compliant with signage, benches, and a water fountain (with pet bowl!) in Culver Park near the beach lodge. The trail is open for biking, walking, jogging, skating, and rollerblading. With the exception of mobility aids, motorized vehicles are not allowed.
Connecting the western edge of Culver Academies campus to Culver Park, the trail runs east to west through the park before exiting at the west edge of the park onto Washington Street. From there, the route runs west and south, crossing by downtown near Jefferson Street and Main Street. Following Plymouth Street and Main Street through downtown for most of the route, this trail provides an important connection to the south end of town. Following along the edge of the lake, this section of trail offers occasional views of Lake Maxinkuckee.
The next phase of the trail will continue along the rail corridor to SR 10 with projected completion in 2023.
Parking is available midway along the trail in a large lot by the Culver Park Department (819 E Lake Shore Dr).
