The Lykins Gulch Trail connects users to the west end of the popular St. Vrain Greenway. The concrete trail, which runs from Airport Road along the gulch, was constructed as part of the a stream restoration project. The original Lykins Gulch had been filled in in favor of irrigation ditches, but that created decades of flooding issues. The City decided to restore the natural channel of the trail to manage storm water and mitigate flooding. The restored gulch meanders into St. Vrains Creek and the concrete trail runs alongside it to scenic Golden Ponds Park, where there are additional paths and gorgeous mountain views (Note: aside from ponds in the park, the other ponds in the vicinity are private property).
Park at Golden Ponds Park (2651 3rd Ave, Longmont, CO 80503). Head south and cross St. Vrain Creek to join the Lykins Gulch Trail and you can then follow the trail southwest to Airport Road. There is an underpass to cross Airport Road.
