The Northern Atlantic Trails System connects two major recreation sites in Atlantic, Iowa. On the west end is the Schildberg Recreation Area, where 1.3 miles of trail wrap around the three lakes in the park. Popular activities within the park include fishing, birdwatching, picnics and of course, walking and biking.
Cpming out of Schildberg Recreation Area, the trail heads east, across Troublesome Creek. On the other end, the Atlantic Municipal Utilities (AMU) Well Field, where a combination of gravel and paved trails criss-cross the open space.
The great thing about the Northern Atlantic Trail System is that the multiple loops give trail users options about how long a walk or ride they want to take.
Parking is available at the Schildberg Recreation Area. There's parking near the Buck Creek Dog Park (102 Buck Creek Rd, Atlantic) as well as the east end of the rec area (299 N Chestnut St).
