Sackets Harbor Battlefield History Trail is part of the Sackets Harbor Battlefield, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Interpretive panels along the loop trail tell the military’s pivotal role during the War of 1812 and Navy presence afterward. Experience the 1860s Navy Yard, War of 1812 Centennial maple trees, 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps decorative stone wall on the cliff, expansive mowed lawns, thickets housing abundant bird life, and unsurpassed sweeping views of Black River Bay on the eastern end of Lake Ontario. The trail was designated by the US Department of the Interior as one of 10 nationally recognized recreation trails in 2015.
