Completed in 2020, the Saint Clair County Transit District's Orchard Loop Trail is a gorgeous, smooth asphalt pathway that traverses the rolling hills on the suburban outskirts of Belleville. The trail crosses over the property of the Eckert's Family Farm on its way out to the Orchards subdivision, with the trail taking its name from both the suburban residential development and the scenic farm orchards along the route.
On the northern end, a short on-road connection provides a useful link with the MetroBikeLink Trail, a 14-mile rail-with-trail pathway that spans the heart of the county from Scott Air Force Base to Fairview Heights. For those looking for a quieter, more scenic option, however, the Orchard Loop Trail and its farmland views can't be beat.
A trailhead with parking is available at the Eckert's lot, located at 951 S Green Mount Road outside Belleville. Additional parking is available off the eastern end of the trail at the Orchards Golf Course, located at 1499 Golf Course Drive.
Trail access is also available from the connecting MetroBikeLink Trail and the adjacent MetroLink Red Line, with the Orchard Loop Trail junction located halfway between the Belleville and College MetroLink Stations.
This is a very nice, scenic - absolutely beautiful trail and you can either start out or end up at Eckerts!
I would definitely do again. Would be fun to do with the family and stop for dinner after!
It is a bike and walk trail that has a part on a roadway. Consisting of a few hills it is a nice addition to the MetroLink trail system .
