S&S Greenway Description

The S&S Greenway lies in southeastern Statesboro, a college town that's home to Georgia Southern University. It traces the route of the former Savannah & Statesboro Railway, which first began in 1897.

The trail is currently open for more than 2 miles, offering an interesting mix of dense woodlands with busy shopping and dining areas at both ends. The newer, southern end of the trail parallels the newly-constructed S.S. Railroad Bed Road. A tunnel takes trail users under busy Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The S&S Greenway will one day total 8 miles as it stretches south to downtown Brooklet.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking can be found at the trailheads at both ends of the trail: Gentilly Road in the west and Pretoria Rushing Road in the east. Restrooms are also available in both locations.

Easy Ride

Paved and well marked. Restrooms at each end. Bring your bug spray!

Great Trail!

This is a great trail for beginners. Very flat and scenic. The trail is not lit, which is the only downside. If you’re halfway through when it starts getting dark, you better hurry up or you’ll be stuck in pitch black.

This trail is great for seeing a lot of wildlife. We have seen barred owls, deer, hawks, snakes, and turtles. There are also signs of beavers. Very flat, paved, and a great place for walking your pets on a leash. The trail passes through thick woods, past marshy areas, and by undeveloped fields used for agriculture. Bathrooms and parking at both ends of 2.75 mile trail.

S&S Trail

My wife and I road the trail in the heat of the day with 80 degree temperature. The trail has about 40% shade and might be best to ride early in the morning or late after noon for max shade.

It is a very nice trail, the clean restrooms at both ends were very nice, with picnic tables.

Good easy trail

The trail is paved, 2.75 miles in length. It has some small rises, no real hills. You have to cross one road, but cars now have to stop and let you pass. There is parking and restrooms at both ends. It will eventually reach close to 7 or 8 miles in length, all the way to Brooklet.

S&S Greenway in East Statesboro, Ga

Great trail! Now 2 and one half miles long (5 mile round trip). Will be 7 miles eventually (to Brooklet)
Very smooth and clean trail! Nice bathrooms at each end. Trail is like brand new with benches along the way. Very few roads to cross and they are not busy. Has a tunnel under the busy road.
Trail is about 50% shaded.
