The Triple C in the trail name stands for Charleston, Cincinnati and Chicago Railroad. The railroad ran through what is now the trail from for about a century, with Norfolk Southern finally ending service in this segment in the 1980s. Soon after the first section of the Triple C multiuse trail. This first section is known as the York Bicycle Trail and is paved. The rest of the 23-mile pathway had been completed by 2007.
The trail begins beside the Plains LPG Svc LP along SR 161, near Tirzah and then travels east through mostly forested areas. Trail users are very likely to come across a white-tailed deer and wild turkeys wandering around the woods. Once you cross Alexander Lowe Highway, civilization begins to creep back in with smattering of houses. The York Greenway trailhead stands at 4th Street (SR 626), and further along is the intersection with the one-mile York Bicycle Trail, which branches northwards.
From York, the trail passes through the communities of Sharon, Hickory Grove, Smyrna, and then ends at Kings Creek in Cherokee County.
The eastern endpoint of the trail is located at 2470 Old York Road, York and while the western terminus is at the intersection of Hollifield and Manning roads in Kings Creek. There is parking available at the James Ross Wildlife Reservation, about 2 miles southwest of the town of York (SR 35).
