The Wehrspann Lake Trail loops around its namesake reservoir in the Chalco Hills Recreation Area on the southwestern outskirts of Omaha. There are benches and picnic spots along the paved pathway to take in the scenic views of the trees and grasses surrounding the lake; you might even spot a few deer. The park spans more than 1,000 acres and also offers opportunities for fishing.
On the north end of the trail, parking is available off S. 154th Ave., just south of Giles Road. On the south end of the trail, parking is available off Nebraska Highway 370, just west of S. 168th St.
There are paved concrete trails throughout the park as well as dirt hiking trails. The park has an abundance of wildlife to include a large herd of deer, turkeys, raccoons and a pair of nesting bald eagles.
This is a great trail around Lake Wehrspann. Many benches along the trail and scenic views along the lake. There is a trail that goes around the entire Lake that is about 6 miles, but also a cut-off that will take a couple of miles off it that is would you would like. So between the 2 smaller loops or the complete around-the-lake loop, you should be able to find a distance that is suitable for you.
