The Western Fayette Bike Path is a paved 2.9-mile trail that runs between the eastern end of the Xenia-Jamestown Connector at the Greene County/Fayette County boundary and the Village of Octa.
About the Route
Access the western end of the trail via the Xenia-Jamestown Connector (south of Rosemoor Rd). From there, the trail heads southeast through fields and farmland.
Trees line the trail providing shade. Nearing its southeastern end, the trail has a tunnel under I-71. Access the southeast end on Water Street by the baseball fields in the Village of Octa.
Connections
At its western end, the Western Fayette Bike Path connects to the eastern end of the Xenia-Jamestown Connector.
The Western Fayette Bike Path runs between the Greene County/Fayette County boundary (eastern end of the Xenia-Jamestown Connector) and Water St (Village of Octa).
There is no dedicated trail parking, but parking may be available at the southeastern end by the baseball fields.
The Western Fayette Bike Path is an 3 mile extension of the Xenia-Jamestown Connector. It extends the Xenia-Jamestown Connector eastward from the Greene County/Fayette County border to Water Street in the village of Octa, Ohio.
The trail surface of this trail extension was in great condition considering that it is just a few years old. You cross over 3 roads on your way to Octa. None of them are heavily travelled, but there are trail stop signs at every crossing. The trail passes through a tunnel underneath Interstate 71 before reaching Octa. The trail dead ends into a picnic shelter on the other side of Water Street. This shelter appears to have been built on what was once the Octa train depot.
The importance of the Western Fayette Bike Path is that it expands the reach of Miami Valley Trail Network by connecting Fayette County to the Greene County Xenia Station Trail Hub (4 different trails). It has removed one of the major trail connectivity obstacles by tunneling under Interstate 71. More importantly, the possibility of extending this trail from Octa into Washington Court House, Ohio would create a great multi-day regional trail by connecting to the Xenia-Jamestown Connector to 35 mile long Paint Creek Recreation Trail.
A good trail to use for accessing Xenia, the hub of Ohio's bike trails. Especially if you live south or east of the trail. Day-parking in Octa is allgood, but you need permission from the Village of Octa to park overnite. Have bikecamped from Octa to Yellow Springs and Octa to Dayton Metro Parks from Octa. There is a new State campground TRAILSIDE on the Jamestown connector
This trail is just an extension of Xenia Jamestown...straight trail, not much to brag about.
