The Westridge Greenway Trail spans just shy of a mile, running along a beautiful shaded corridor in the heart of suburban West Des Moines. The flat trail is a mixture of concrete and asphalt paths, perfectly suited for recreational and exercise needs, and the trail connects to the lovely Jordan Creek Trail on its northern end, providing opportunities for longer bike rides or runs.
Starting in the south, the trail begins off of the sidepath that runs up 60th Street. Following the path of a small creekbed, the trail passes over the creek and past a series of subdivisions, entering a more pleasant and natural landscape as it moves along the outskirts of Willow Springs Park. The park hosts a picnic and playground area, restrooms and athletic fields, and a short loop trail around the perimeter, making it a neat little spot for neighborhood recreation. Continuing north, the trail passes by a local elementary school, providing a useful path for local kids to get to and from school, and then uses a pair of underpasses to meet up with the Jordan Creek Trail, where trail users can continue their journey for miles to either the west or the east. A short but sweet trail, the Westridge Greenway Trail links neighborhoods together and also provides a surprisingly scenic path considering all the surrounding suburban development.
Parking and restrooms are available in Willow Springs Park on Wistful Vista Drive, two blocks east of S 60th Street. The park is accessible off of Interstate 35 by taking exit 70 for Mills Civic Parkway, heading west on the parkway to S 60th St, and turning right to continue north for about a mile to Wistful Vista Drive. Additional parking may be available at the Westridge Elementary School on the northern end of the trail; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
