Randall Parkway Trail

Rejuvenating ride

October, 2025 by asimpson50

The Randall Parkway Trail ride was very rejuvenating! I hadn’t been on a ride in a couple of weeks and needed one badly. It was good to be out on a wide trail that walkers, runners and cyclists could share without fear of running into each other. The trail was a bit challenging as it was a bit hilly just slightly but gave my calves a workout. I didn’t like that I had to cross a somewhat busy street from the trail parking lot that had no crossing lights to stop the traffic for me. I had to take a chance of not getting hit.

Richard L. Platt Memorial Levee Trail

Smooth ride

October, 2025 by asimpson50

It is a very smooth ride on this trail. It is just long enough for a “getting back to riding” trip that you won’t be too sore the next day. The height of the trail from the levee is a bit scary but well worth the ride. There are a few industrial businesses along the route which helps break up the ride. Unfortunately, There is one major road that you need to cross which drivers will not heed to bikers.

BMRR North Trail

nice, interesting, but short

July, 2024 by bbraden

BMMR North is a pleasant trail with adequate shade, some stunning vistas of Jones Valley & beyond (imgine there would be more to see in dormant foliage). Intersting relics of mining operations. Trail appears to be true rail trail for about 1.25 miles, though trail length is list at 2.0. There is no asphalt beyond parking lot; embedded rail ties still visible in most areas. Once reaching X with Redding Trail at some an impressive structure, the trail narrows and trends toward rougher surfaced until sweeping uphill on a grassy swale to connect with BMMR South.
Connectors between the trails are more difficult than typical railtrail; Wenonah Connector is great, until surface goes rustic to jump the ridge. Both better as out & back, from Venice Rd. Better yet, park off Bessemer Super Highway in Midfield & ride the High Ore Trail; carefully cross a marked crossing at moderately busy 2 lane, and do the BMMR North & Wenonah, then back to Midfield for about a 11 mile O/B.
parked at Frankfurt Circle, road part of BMRR South, connected to BMMR North , rode to Venice Ave, reversed, took Wenonah Connector back to BMMR South for return to Frankfurt. Would not recommend the connectors i used on any bike.

Tuscaloosa Riverwalk

Great place to take a rest from traveling!

On a road trip and needed to stretch our legs. Great trail to walk and had the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen on a walking trail! 5 stars all the way!

Buck Creek Greenway

All gravel and dirt. But nice view.

Tuscaloosa Riverwalk

Beautiful with interesting stops

June, 2022 by john70jan

The first portion of this trail is closed down for construction. Once you get past the sports complex, however, the rest of the trail is beautiful, diverse, with places to stop and eat at a restaurant along the Black Warrior River, enjoy a picnic, or just rest and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Spectacular ride today!

Hillsboro Trail

Too Bumpy

May, 2022 by john70jan

Nice trail, espevially for walking. Tree roots are heaving the pavement all along the trail making it very unpleasant for cycling.

Shades Creek Greenway

beautiful trail; skaters: watch out for dirt

April, 2022 by darrienjamila2000

lovely trail; not too busy at 7 am on a saturday in early summer. the trail is completely paved, but there are sections where there is a fair amount of dirt on top of the asphalt, so it can get a little squirrely sometimes. also a fair amount of slopes (most aren’t super steep though) and somewhat rocky/bumpy sections, but if you’ve got good form you’ll make it through.

Shades Creek Greenway

Great Bike Ride

January, 2022 by jimmysmauldin

The trail is paved with mile markers spray painted on the trail. Most people were walking, running and taking leisurely strolls with their pups. Not too hilly, but I got a good exercise for the five mile round trip.

High Ore Line Trail

Great Trail!!

September, 2021 by a.rae1980

My son and I did this trail recently on a beautiful Saturday, plus the extension of Red Mountain Park, a workout. Round trip a little over 6+ miles and not being an experienced biker, just a rider from time to time, this really pushed me. I did walk some but mostly rode.
The extension of Red Mountain Park side is tougher than just the High Ore Trail alone, but well worth the ride.
There is not parking for the High Ore Trail that we could find except for at the Red Mountain Park Side and ride it down and through the Trail.
We'll be back and hopefully I can ride the whole trail this time without walking any. :-)

High Ore Line Trail

Too short and boring

Not the best, but it’s something.
