Stones River Greenway

The best Greenway trail in Nashville

August, 2017 by rosenquiste

Stones River Greenway is dare I say a magical place. It's a place where lives are changed and comradery is exercised. There are so many stunning nature scenes and views. The beautiful stones river by your side as you walk, jog, run or bike. Wooden Posts every .25 miles to show you your progress. You can start at a number of very cool Trailheads. Percy Priest Dam, YMCA, Kohls, McGavock Waterplant/Soccer Fields, Two Rivers Park, etc. This site says the trail is 9 miles one way - but I'd beg to differ on that. I'd say more like 11.5 miles from the Percy Priest Dam to Shelby Bottoms park. It's 8 miles just to the top lookout site after the bridge over the Cumberland. Then another 3.5 to Shelby Bottoms.
I'd like to personally thank all the people that planned and constructed the Stones River Greenway. It has literally changed my life as well as my family and friends. I've gained a lot of great acquaintances as well. I'm down 45 pounds too!

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Very nice

June, 2017 by dflong_tl

Drove from Huntsville AL to this trail. Very nice ride. I thought it was worth the ride up. Very shaded. Nice tree tunnels. Bridges along the way were beautiful. The main bridge is super neat and beautiful. We rode the full trail. All 13 miles. 3.7 paved and 3 unpaved one way.. Nice views of river. Only negative is lots of tree roots made for bumping ride even on paved area. Gravel area needs some up keep and attention. Nice trailhead with good parking.

Mill Creek Greenway (TN)

great connector trail

May, 2017 by tenscsteve

I really enjoy the peacefulness of this Trail. What really makes it great though is that it allows you to connect to all the stores located in Lenox Village and others along the way on Nolensville Pike. You can also easily get to Kroger and Concord Road from there if you cross the street onto Bluff Road you can continue on that into some of the trails in Brentwood.

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Best Trail By Far

May, 2017 by courtney990

There are not enough words to describe this trail! Saw few snakes, the rock formations and uniquely form trees were more than a sight to see! The trail seems longer than 6 miles but well worth every step. Mother nature at its finest.

Clarksville Greenway

Tranquil

May, 2017 by courtney990

One of the best walking paths in Clarksville! Very tranquil, lots of birds and deer to see. Part B of the greenway is more difficult due the hills and curves. The greenway combined is 10 miles. And will be extended in near future.

Springfield Greenway

Amazing!

May, 2017 by courtney990

Extremely unique and beautiful trail. Love visiting the ducks/geese. However few kids ruined the enjoyment by kicking one. But the trail loops around the town, and it is actually longer if you visit the soccer field and distillery. Kid and pet friendly ;)

White Plains Trail

Great short trail

May, 2017 by tsugakentucky

Well kept short trail (2 miles). Most of it goes through woods with agricultural fields outside. Very quiet. Much used for exercise. There are not many designated trails in this area.

Mill Creek Greenway (TN)

Mill Creek Greenway - A better location for walking, running, bicycling

February, 2017 by vanheydenauthor

Didn't know that crayfish were indigenous to Mill Creek, spotted a 5 foot (plus) heron day before yesterday wading in the creek and then it took off majestically southward, (almost got it on camera-damn), and I find it comforting and very pleasant a walk/run along the stream most anytime. And don't let us forget the smaller birds that flourish there abundantly. Can meet individuals of like mind, have conversations, who would have thought?
Where's my mountain bike, Santa!?

Muhlenberg County Rail-Trail

Great local and public trail

December, 2016 by bronson23_vincent

I'm in the military and have actually taken the Army Physical Fitness Test on this trail. We run 2 miles for record so they have a white posted line past Powderly to start from and will run to where the trail starts in Greenville across from Clarks Appliance Center. Soldiers like to take the running part of the PT Test there because instead of the normal 8 laps in a circle rubbing elbows with 60 other Soldiers it's a 1 way start to end run and halfway, 1 mile mark, you can see the finish line and mentally makes you more confident and run harder and Soldiers really improve their time. Also I have ridden the the trail several times on bicycle along with my children and have never had any trouble. We always ride up and back and stop at the swamp area to go up on the deck and view the wildlife. It is maintained well and has a lot of neat interesting features along the way. It is truly great having this in our local community and we are very fortunate.

Shelby Bottoms Greenway

Gem of a trail

November, 2016 by david.laferney

It's a great park-trail experience with no substantial hills except (optionally) if you cross the pedestrian bridge over the Cumberland river. The trails and the parking area have a very safe feel to them. Bring your own water!

My Wife, 11-year-old Grandaughter, and I started from the parking lot under the railroad trestle in Shelby park. We rode North on the main trail - crossed the pedestrian bridge to wave country - then continued to the north end of the park, around the north loop, then returned to Shelby park. Just under 10 miles including a bit of messing around in the parking lots to check out our gear. There are other paved connectors and side trails that you could explore if you have the time and inclination.

The trail going up to the pedestrian bridge, and on - through a tunnel under the interstate -to the trailhead at wave country are pretty steep - but very much worth the effort. As we were crossing the bridge, the General Jackson river boat passed under it for a great photo op - and the return ride down the long hill is great fun. Just make sure your brakes are in working order first!

As others have mentioned - use the bathroom before you start and bring enough water.

The reason I give this trail less than 5 stars is that even though it's a great trail, and well worth the (2hr) drive to get to it - it just doesn't have the level of spectacular scenery or interesting landscapes - like the Virginia Creeper, or Chattanooga river park trail. Still - a great resource for mid-TN recreational bikers.

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Awesome trail

October, 2016 by bryan.kinkel

My first trip from Nashville to the Ashland City Bicentennial Trail and I couldn't have been more impressed. I ran the trail early on a Friday morning and had the trail to myself (a real difference from the usually crowded greenways of Nashville). Did not see another person until around 8:30 AM.

The condition of the trail was excellent. The scenery was exceptional. The trail runs mostly along the base of the bluffs adjacent to the Cumberland River bottomlands. Lots of wildlife to observe where the trail borders the hardwood sloughs of the Cumberland River. Most of the trail is shaded, which should be a big help during the hot summer months.

Two huge thumbs up for this trail. A real hidden gem of the Nashville Region. Looking forward to running this trail more frequently in the future.
