Lamoille Valley Rail Trail

Highgate to Fairfield

March, 2025 by apnichols

love this trail and am really looking forward to more good-weather days ahead. I managed to get out for a ride this afternoon after a quick rain shower moved through, and it turned out to be a decent day. Despite the recent rain—and even snow just two days ago—the trail was in great shape between Highgate and Fairfield. I rode 15 miles out and back for a total of 30 miles. Smooth ride, beautiful scenery, and well-maintained conditions. Can’t wait to be back out there again soon! Better weather is coming…

We just rode the trail up & back with hybrids. No issues. Good hard pack gravel & sand. Rails & ties are removed. Good food at both trail ends. No one on the trail on first hunting season day.

Three trees down between miles 21 and, I think, 22

October, 2024 by pianomath

The trail is beautiful ... and there are three trees that were blown down a few days ago. Clearing them out requires a chainsaw or a group of strong people. It is possible to walk around them. If possible, I will post some photos. It's unfortunate that I see no way of communicating this directly to the State of Vermont.

Presidential Rail Trail

Pondicherry WR to Randolf, NH

October, 2024 by patstix25yrs

Plenty of parking at the Pondicherry Wildlife trail head. We ride fat tire ebikes. The trail presented little issue with some rougher, more narrow sections close to the refuge. There is a lovely viewing platform near the start of the trail. We rode in late September. The foliage was not peak but stunning none the less. The trail had only a few leaves and few puddles. Not the best for a standard bike but perfect for bikes with wider tires. We rode up to Randolf and turned around, 34 miles. not busy but we saw other riders, dog walkers, hikers and a couple of horse riders. Great views of the mountains when you break into a meadow or wetland. really fun. I took off a star because standard bikes might struggle.

No Longer a trail for bicycles

October, 2024 by gjerstak

We road 5 miles of the trail starting in Littleton.
But after 5 miles we turned back because ATV's have torn-up the trail.
This trail is OK for walking, but no longer OK for bicycles.
It is sad. It would be a nice trail if the ATV's had not destroyed it.

Trail is outstanding!

September, 2024 by ponttichuck

Whatever the previous people experienced has been taken care of … the only obstacles are the barriers you go around preventing atvs from using the trail … it’s not a paved trail but it is very smooth for a natural trail… its absolutely gorgeous from Littleton to the nh border… today I am biking with my sister and brother in law and look forward to exploring the wonders of nature and enjoying every minute of it!

Presidential Rail Trail

Disappointed

September, 2024 by dibergie

My husband and I were so looking forward to this trail. We started at the west end (as it was closest to our vacation rental) with the intention of riding as much as we could, hopefully to the end. We got about 5 miles in, subjecting our bikes and our bodies to the ongoing bumps along the way. Once we got to the very narrow (about 12 inches wide) section with grass grown into the path, we gave it a try and finally decided to turn around not knowing if it was going to get any better. We decided to drive over to the east end thinking that would be a better place to ride (based on reviews). We got 3 miles in from that end. We simply weren't enjoying the very rough ride that this trail provides. Again, we were very disappointed. What we did see along the west route was beautiful and exactly the type of scenery we were hoping for. But the uncomfortable nature of the ride made it very undesirable.

nicely paved

Lots of bridges to cross, plenty of benches to stop and take a break more at the west end. Wish it was longer but still a very nice ride.

Presidential Rail Trail

scenic, trees and smooth

August, 2024 by daniellefort

Started from the Gorham parking lot. This was my first e-bike ride on a rental. Heart health issues so I couldn’t ride a regular bike. Rode all the way across to Rt 115 and maybe 1/2 mile after we crossed the highway. I really enjoyed the trail up until hwy 115 where it got to a single lane and overgrown brush. By this point I was getting tired and we turned around. This was about 16 miles from start in Gorham. It was very scenic going past the marsh ponds and through the woods.
