New Section Open from the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail

February, 2017 by 8 wheel transit

A new section of this trail has been completed and is open from the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail (adjacent to El Pomar Sports Complex) northeast to Hancock Expressway. This is a brand-new, all-concrete section of trail up to Hancock Expressway.

There is still a short missing section of trail north of Hancock, but you can navigate around the missing section of trail using Astrozon Boulevard (located 850 feet to the southeast along Hancock). There are striped bike lanes on Astrozon between Hancock and Academy. You can jump back on the trail via the sidewalks along Academy Boulevard between the Astrozon/Academy intersection and the Sand Creek bridge just to the north. The trail continues along Sand Creek up to Airport Road.

Little Dry Creek Trail

Just ok

November, 2016 by gretchen0b

I did this trail on a longboard starting at 64th Ave. and Pecos. Not knowing when I started this, from 64th all the way to Powell St. the trail is closed. From 64th to Federal the trail is skateable. Once your at Federal you have to walk through a little construction but once you get through it and navigate through some side streets you'll be good to go to the end of the trail. It does look like most of the construction should be done by summer 2017? Once I was back on the trail I noticed that most of it is slightly up hill which made the return trip nice with minimal pushing. I had an 8-10 mph tail wind all the way back which was great, with no tail wind the ride back to 64th would be pretty slow. The concrete on this path is old but in good shape. That also means the path is not very wide compared to todays standard bike path width. The concrete also has old school expansion joints that were done with a trowel instead of a concrete saw, so it's a little bumpy. If this path had new concrete all the way it would be a great ride and I would give 4 stars. I can't give it 5 stars because once you get to Vance Dr. the path becomes sidewalk skating which totally sucks. Not only that it goes the long way around a big shopping center complex and it can be dangerous. Make life easy, once you get to Vance Dr. head up to 80th Ave. and take 80th all the way to Pomona dr. you'll be happy you did. Once you get through that mess your good to go all the way to the end of the trail. There is one section where you have to walk on a dirt road for about a 1/10 mi. but no big deal. The tail wind is what made this ride super fun. Not sure if I'll ever do it again.

Clear Creek Trail (CO)

That was fun!

October, 2016 by deb.goss

I was wondering if I was gonna make it the whole way and I did. I started at 88th & Colorado in Thornton and made it all the way to Golden. The gradual incline is awesome, I'm sure I will feel it tomorrow. Wasn't thrilled by the "wall" when I got to Golden, that was a tough climb for a rider like me, but I made it.

Didn't hit any construction as mentioned in other reviews, the only un-fun part was the Kipling crossover, Safety First I know, but I really wanted to jump across the 4 lanes in order to save time, but really it wasn't that big of a deal to double back to the trail on the other side of the street.

If I had to do it again I would most likely start in Wheatridge, the trail was way prettier at this point heading West. I wasn't too fond of the I-25 underpass (totally Dateline murder material!) and the other underpasses but I did want the extra miles which is why I started in Thornton.

Thank you!

Platte River Trail

great but busy

October, 2016 by astroman

There are lots of families and weekend sightseers who don't know bike path ediquite, but otherwise it's a great through path that is well maintained. Most of it is scenic along the river with several areas of industrial views. Shops and rest areas along the way. Connects to many other trails.

Ralston Creek Trail

very convoluted

There are several different spots to enter the Ralston Creek Trail. This trail connects up to the Clear Creek Trail around the 62nd and Sheridan area and you enter it by going up the Gold Strike Bridge, named so because this was the first place gold was discovered in Colorado, but the only way to enter at this point is to have come from the Clear Creek Trail. another place to enter is from the downtown area of the city of Arvada, but this section goes through many different parks, open spaces, playgrounds, neighborhoods and golf courses. it can be very difficult to follow the trail here since many parts are not marked and you have to either guess or play trail detective to find your way through. The main spot where a lot of people enter is at Blunn Reservoir. Take hwy 93 to the 64th street exit and there is a little parking spot past the water treatment plant next to long lakes ranch park. If you are going to enter at this point be prepared for a long and very steep climb on a trail that switchbacks up the side of a mountain and then switchbacks on the way back down, There is very little shade at this location so bring lots of water and wear sun screen. Although paved and smooth, The mountain side of this trail is not recommended for casual, beginner or commuter cyclist.

Cherry Creek Regional Trail

My Favorite Trail

September, 2016 by randers51

I have been riding this trail for over 20 years. I used to ride it to commute to and from work before I retired. Still ride it at least several times a month. Recent additions and completion of broken sections make this a great trail to ride for a long days ride.

Pikes Peak Greenway Trail

Lovely River Walk

August, 2016 by mskoehler711

I have not taken this trail south of Monument Valley Park, but the northern walk, from Uintah to Woodman is really quite lovely. The remodeled section from Van Buren to Fillmore (re-opened in July 2016) is just breathtaking as it dips down into the trees beside the river. Lovely bridges cross-cross the water throughout the trail.

If needed, there are bathrooms and water fountains at the following sections of the trail:
* Monument Valley Park - just south of the I25 pedestrian bridge
* Bodington Park - near the playground
* Gossage Youth Sports Complex
