Work Off Winter Fluff

March, 2025 by mlawlor72

This is a great trail for working off your winter fluff - it is challenging in areas with hills which for those of us who spent the winter either shoveling snow or hibernating (me) came as a surprise! The trail itself is paved with asphalt or concrete slabs. The asphalt areas have tree roots humps and bumps accompanied with a couple heaves. The poured concrete slabs were in decent shape. The trail goes alongside Melton Lake - pretty early spring views from the bluff. Many people were out enjoying the warm temps and the crew teams were out on the water. I

Starts down town travels 3+ miles mostly next to active track. Ok ride not too hard to follow. Will be nice when lengthened. Good parking lots at both ends. Trail has great potential

This is my go to bike path. I start at Haw Ridge and ride to Elza Gate - 6miles one way. Great round trip ride! Very pretty scenery and some challenging hills.

Tennessee Central Heritage Rail Trail

questionable

September, 2019 by gfbkwc7

this trail starts downtown on a series of sidewalks...some OK & others ??? & also crosses numerous streets in busy traffic areas. Not an easy relaxing initial ride. Not sure how it is called a Rail-to-Trail since it needs a lot of work to qualify for 4-5 stars. Will not be back, too many great trails elsewhere.

Montery Tn rail trail

September, 2019 by riskwillard

The rail trail is in bad need of repair. the section that starts just behind the Monterey police department to Crossville Street. The wooden rail in different sections is falling apart, the fencing in the rail frame itself has either been pullled out or fell out in at least 4 sections of the rail. In dire need of weeding in 2 sections of the walk. Wm H Risk 202 D South Elm street Monterey Tn

Don’t Bother Riding this Trail

September, 2019 by pkrauss_tl

I attempted to describe our experience in this trail review; however, limited space prevented this. Poor markings, trail quality, tree roots attempting to break through the riding surface and a number of challenging intersections make this the worst trail we’ve ever ridden. (We’ve ridden in GA, FL, AR, AL, MS, NC, and SC). This trail is not for serious riders. I don’t have an axe to grind. Finally, if you like paved rail trails and greenways, skip this one!!!!

Peaceful, Easy Ride

We started in Algood and rode to the depot and back. Made a quick bathroom stop at Cinderella Park on the way back. My odometer measured the distance as 9.22 miles round trip. So nice to finally have a bike trail in this area.

Cathy Crockett Memorial Trail

Nice area but needs some maintenance and improvements.

December, 2018 by shaneollice

The parking area was very hard to find! Because there is no sign by hwy. 27 informing you where the parking area for the Rails to Trails Cathy Crockett Memorial Trail or the trailhead is located. If you're looking for it, it's just south of Dixie Bend Rd. on the west side of hwy. 27. After looking at Google maps and finally locating it, it was a enjoyable walk with my mom and her 2 dogs. There was signs designating the trailhead. The first section of the trail was nicely maintained. But after we reached the gravel road there was no signs informing us that the trail is the gravel road until the gravel road makes a left curve, then the trail leaves the gravel road continues straight ahead. Once the trail leaves the gravel road at this point it hasn't been maintained much if any at all. We had to maneuver around briars and step over logs that was across the trail. We walked the trail until we reached the concrete abutment of the old tressel that used to span across Minton Hollow in Sloans Valley. This trail definitely needs some maintenance and signs placed to better inform people about the trail and ect.

Cookeville is a great town with lots of good scenery....but this trail shows little of it. Once you cross Washington and head east, everything is industrial.

Superb family freindly ride.

June, 2017 by frank20

Took my 9 yr old riding last weekend. Parked at the Depot in Cookeville. The TN Central passenger excursion train was there....amazing to see it running with people going to Nasville. Rode all the way to Algood end. Flat, well marked, wide, 4mi ride out. Came back and ate ice cream at Ice Cream City downtown. Perfection! Bravo Cookeville. Cant wait until the Monterey and Baxter extwnsions open up.
