MoPac Trail East

impressed

July, 2021 by opd1845

I was skeptical when driving to the Wabash NE trail head, but that soon changed to pure joy! This trail is very well kept. A crew of 4 was on the trail cleaning from a recent storm. Multiple signs to educate riders on upcoming trail possibilities (farm equipment, horses & animal holes) I will be back for sure! Hopefully able to hit it in its entirety next time.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but this trail was great! I only did 10 out and back from Wabash NE, and the trail I did bike was in GREAT shape! There was even a crew of 4 working east to west along the trail cleaning debris. I will be here again but hopefully in its entirety!!!

Bridge was recently opened back up over the Platte. Additional upgrades on the east side of the river as well.

Lake Manawa Trail

This is a nice shaded trail and attaches to the Wabash on the east side. If you go west it’s a 5 mile ride to the Bob Kerry pedestrian bridge. The pavement on Manawa Trail is rippled and pretty bumpy on the southside.

Wabash Trace Nature Trail

90/100. Temp in 90's Parked at Council Bluffs large parking trailhead, road the 90% canopy trail to Coin. Payed $5 camping fee,set up inside shelter house left gear in tent (bathroom shower-cold but ok with me). The drop box for camping is southside of larger building south of bathroom. Very nice quiet town mowed grass. Road rest of trail to Blanchard. From Coin South trail becomes less traveled but surface still very good, some down limbs and yes trail ends into tall grass. I road thru lot and down main to Missouri line. www.wabashtrace.org describes services available and is very accurate. Everything open that I saw. On webpage with mileage chart, the mile post didn't always match. Look out for nail heads sticking up on some bridges and 4 spots with animal holes in trail. This trail was basically fantastic, huge amount cardinals, blue jays, robins, some deer; not many flowers. Reminents of train wrecks at 3 different bridges (rail cars in creek). Where else can you ride 62 miles with 3 towns with services stones throw from trail and 1 larger town 6 blocks to full services. Also 3 stops with cheap tent camping with showers. Trail connects to downtown Omaha but I didn't have time.

Oak Creek Trail

Has one section closed. About the second mile out from Valparaiso. We by passed by taking a two mile detour on steep gravel roads. Also can get to it off of 66, but that is one long hill up.

Wabash Trace Nature Trail

Silver City to Mavern and back.

May, 2021 by janet.l.evans

We took a detour on our drive to Des Moines from Colorado to ride from Silver City to lunch at the Classic Cafe (large! potions) and back. Quiet but for bird calls, green tunnel through terraced farm land. Well maintained surface. Stopped in the Happy Trails Cycle shop to purchase a trail pass. (25 May 2021).

West Papio Trail

Look forward to extension to Flannagan Lake trail

May, 2021 by kjbusacker

I love riding the West Papio, both north and south from Zorinsky Lake, where i usually connect. The north end is more scenic with trees. It's a shame the West Papio does not connect yet to Flannagan Lake. I see they are working on the Cleveland Blvd road, so that should be a solution once done.

Platte River Connection

Still closed as of April 24th 2021

April, 2021 by joel_ratliff2000

Closed for several years now. We saw the entrances in South Bend wired up and signs saying stay out but then members of the Middle island community using the bridge as their leisure ground. So basically it’s gated access to keep everyone out except those who live on Middle Island.

Great American Rail-Trail

best trail ever

wonderful trip across America

Zorinsky Lake Trail

Beautiful trail to walk and run. Gorgeous trees and water. We see many deer everytime we go winter or summer. We've even seen coyotes, eagles, bull snakes and many water fowl. Terrible for biking because of the bad asphalt and so many walkers.

Nice concrete trail all around the lake. About 4 miles easy grade. It’s nestled in a neighborhood. Can eat at Caniglias pizza afterwards!
