Amazing ride, but I advise making this trip in the spring. We waited till September to avoid the heat, but ended up in "dangerous" air quality on account of the forest fires. Loved the paved trail. We rode from Plummer to Harrison the first day, 16 miles. Mostly downhill and lovely tree-lined hills, then the cool bridge and... pelicans! They did a flyover, welcoming us to the lake. The next day we rode to Kellogg. Enjoyed the views the first two thirds, not so much near Smelterville. Anime illness annexed the trip, salt. Still, a great, fun ride.
Two friends and I biked from Chatcolet to a few miles beyond Harrison, a round trip of 24 miles. Saw moose, birds, and little critters, ate our picnic on the trail, and enjoyed ice cream in Harrison on the way back. Gorgeous day, lovely scenery, well-maintained trail with plenty of facilities and easy to ride, and lots of friendly people!! Do yourselves a favor and ride the Trail of the CdA!
Great trail that includes both rural and urban scenery. Beautiful river views along the way and a few inclines on the west trail.
-I wish it went beyond Higgins Point -I wish it remained a dedicated bike trail (off roads, or at least a protected bike lane) at the intersection of Seltice,- Hwy 41. -it would have been nice if some of the train trusses were still around. As well, had the trail remained on old rail bed, instead of adjacent to I-90 Still, the views of the lake are great, and it is nice to have a committed bicycle trail from Cd’A to Spokane
Nice little spur from the Centennial Trail which allows access to some neighborhoods. It officially “dead ends” at Huetter - yet all the newer housing developments allow for going further into the Rathdrum Prairie and off the arterials that don’t have protected lanes (yet) /as well as away from commuters who aren’t always patient.
This is a fantastic trail. Highly recommend if you like variety.
Started at Chatcolet and did a r/t of about 25 miles. Amazing views, also saw white pelicans and a couple moose munching in the weeds. No issues with the paved trail. Definitely doing this trail again.
This trail is a real find! Right in the heart of north Spokane, this trail is perfect for safely biking or walking with family. You get quite a workout, as there are hills, and it follows along the new 395 corridor. We love to stop at Sportsman Cafe on Market, for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Big skies and well paved, for an enjoyable ride or walk. We walk and ride this trail daily!
To be outside in fresh air! Ride through a few neighborhoods and get the flavor of the area. Yes along freeway separate from the cars and with some short steep inclines. Adventure and getting away from the staid routines. Give me it every time. Can I go again,pretty please. Ah freedom.
We rode this trail from Toulon to Princeville today. It was great! The path was very good. It is mostly shaded. Excellent. We stopped in Wyoming on our way back for lunch. Ate at 111 Coffee Shop. Don’t be fooled, this is NOT just a coffee shop. The lunch was delicious. And it is decorated all with bikes! Perfect for us bikers. And check out the bathroom. Cute!!! Can’t wait to do more of the route from Princeville going south.
The Milwaukee picks up in Pearson immediately at the end of the Hiawatha. A rider going onto Avery (10 miles south) has two immediate choices, stay on the Milwaukee RR grade with more tunnels and trestles or switch the Scenic Alternate path. Both go downgrade and straddle either side of the St. Joe River. I don't get the sense many Hiawatha cyclists head onto Avery.
About 5 miles down, the two paths cross and one can switch up which is what I did. Leaving Pearson, I stayed on the RR grade which functions as a dirt road. It's more exposed and a bit rocky. After 5 miles or so, just past the trestle, they cross. Here, I switched over to the alternate which has some uphill and downhill but has shady areas. The RR grade has no climbs, all downgrade. The alternate in particular felt more remote. In terms of trail branding/signage, there was none.
In Avery, there are several lodging options. I stayed at Avery Store & Hotel. Super comfy bed and ate at the new TFP Pizza joint. Quite tasty! Make sure to check out the Rail Car and Depot Museum.
My wife Kathy and I ride it all the time. It is a real treasure to our area. It follows Higgins point all the way into downtown Spokane and we have ridden the whole trail. The scenery along it is very spectacular.
