I decided to drive the 50 miles from Columbia Tennessee down here to this trail after work as a last minute idea. Great little trail. I started at Veto, Al (mile 11) and rode it to the beginning (mile 0.0) and back. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The tree canopy kept the trail extremely cool even though the temp was in upper 80s. This trail doesn’t need to be paved
I do not understand why so many say this trail should be paved. It is great as is and paving it would ruin the rural nature of this hike. Flat and shaded, it is an idyllic walk.
This is a good trail. We especially liked the area around Point Mallard. The only negative is there are a couple times we had to cross four lanes of traffic. Otherwise, a very nice trail.
We parked at the Mallard Point Park area and there were plenty of available parking. The path was paved in part and some areas had well packed gravel. We have recumbent trikes and this trail was a wonderful trike route. It was wide enough in most areas to accommodate two traffic and the view along the Tennessee River was gorgeous.
One if the most peaceful, scenic rail-to-trails, but needs paving. Large size gravel is rough for bikes & horses. Lots of ruts from Elkmont to TN state line. Athens to Elkmont is easier portion. Parking & restroom at Piney Chapel in Athens. Nice lunch cafe in Elkmont.
TVA trails in Sheffield are shady & beautiful. This portion is easy and goes to dam overlook.
Connect to Bradford Creek with trail along Mill Rd for longer ride. Has a dog park. New connection being built at Browns Ferry Rd.
We rode the part of this trail which leads from Wilson Morgan park to the Tennessee River. It goes through residential Decatur, mostly along sidewalks which parallel the roads. You must stop or slow continually for crossroads/curbs. The neighborhoods you ride through are sketchy with a lot of trash and poor upkeep. It’s certainly not scenic in any way until you reach the old downtown. Also, I’m several places it’s poorly marked or not marked at all.
This greenway is only 0.5 miles long that runs along Mill Creek. It has an enclosed public dog park along the way which is very spacious for dogs of al sizes. The trail is paved and is very well taken care of with plenty of shade throughout. My kids and I enjoyed riding our bikes along it.
Took my kids (4 and 9) for a bike ride along the trail and it was a smooth and beautiful scenic ride. Very enjoyable and easy.
Beautiful ride!! Nice and shaded- several people on the trail. It is working biking, walking, or running. Great place!!
