Walkway Over The Hudson

It is an amazing experience!

November, 2021 by bblhed_tl

I am really torn on this trail, on one hand it is an amazing experience and a view of the Hudson you will never forget, on the other hand if it is a weekend this place is jam packed with other people taking in the views as well. This was part of a ride on the Hudson Valley Rail trail all the way to New Paltz, I will review that trail separately. Breaking up the ride by going one way early and coming back about 4 hours later made a huge difference in the crowd level and made a much more pleasant ride. Facilities at the walkway were clean and outstanding, lots of historic information, and there were vendors. There are plenty of places to park, I paid $7 (Summer 2021) to park in the official lot and considering the facility and the zero cost to cross the Hudson in either direction I did not feel it was too much for parking. My only complaint aside from the crowds, was that the vendors packed up and closed long before the bridge closed so that was a little disappointing because I did want to get a shirt, plan accordingly if you are doing this as part of a longer ride. I will likely do this ride again but it will likely be part of a longer ride when I do.

Middlebury Greenway

It is a long hill

November, 2021 by bblhed_tl

Rode this on a Summer day Parked by Quassy Amusement park and rode to Maggy My Fly's (a parking lot close to Maggy's, they do not allow parking). It was a mostly downhill ride on paved trail. Along the way there is plenty of green space and lots or roadway, there are a few short totally wooded sections but plan on looking at road for the bulk of your ride. Plenty of places to get food and drink along the way, and even a couple of public parks. This one was likely a one and done for me.

Mattabassett Trolley Trail

Great morning walk

I walk this trail just about every morning. Plenty of parking off the Tuttle Place office park. Several options to increase the length or difficulty. Pretty well maintained but some of the fencing is starting to need attention.

Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail

wow ¿

What a cool, beautiful, pleasant surprise. So glad I decided to check this trail out. Nice parking lot adjacent to the mill apartments on southern end. Road the entire thing including the T portion across the river to Enfield and to the west into Suffield. I will go again and bring some friends. So picturesque.

Captain John Bissell Trail

well I did it

This is probably great for commuters of to get across the river but that’s about it. Poorly marked and poorly maintained. Lots of glass on the path portion. No historical markers or any other information that I noticed.

Perfect Day Ride

October, 2021 by ns4hcxdz8k

We were looking for a ride that provided a good workout, beautiful foliage and a break from the city. The path was straight, flat and paved - so great for all level riders and all age people. The town of Goshen is great. The trail ends (or sort of starts there) depends which side of it you want to start on. There is a portion beyond Goshen in Middletown. To get to that piece - you need to go through the town of Goshen using W. Main Street. You must stop at Sweet Tymes for a treat. Continue to proceed down W Main Street for about 1/4 of mile and on the right you will see the start of the bike path again. You know you have gone too far if you get to the cemetery on the left side of W Main Street. I would also stop in Chester ( you will see the old converted train station) and grab a bite at the Rustic Wheelhouse. Promise it will be a perfect day!

Hook Mountain/Nyack Beach Bikeway

Improved access at the southern end

October, 2021 by steve.schwinn

Updating my July 2020 review, the road down to the Nyack Beach State Park has reopened.
And at the top of the newly reconstructed road to the right of the entrance fee kiosk is a newly constructed foot trail that will take you to the Long Path with access to the Hook Mountain summit with great river views.

Vernon Rails-to-Trails (Hop River State Park Rockville Spur)

Although this trail is not that long, it make a nice addition to riding the Vernon trail. It's a nice quiet ride and a must to experience.

Charter Oak Greenway

No markings at Bolton State Park

October, 2021 by elmarubtc

If you park in Bolton State Park to start on the east end of the Charter Oak Greenway you won’t find any markings for the entrance. It actually starts right at the RT44 West highway entrance to the park. So you need to go down into the lot to park and then go back up the entrance ramp to find the beginning of the Charter Oak Greenway, which is not even marked as such though.

Also fair warning to older riders I only went the first five miles west but that portion at least has very little flat areas, almost all of it is uphill or downhill. Heading west, mostly downhill, but heading back east mostly uphill, including one extended relatively steep climb. No problem for younger riders or riders in great biking shape, but pretty difficult for a casual rider.

On the plus side that portion of the trail at least is very well paved with virtually no divots or surface cracks.

Awesome Trail!

September, 2021 by mmorse33

We started the trail in Middleport parking on Palmer Ave. Highly recommend this direction as it’s mainly uphill to Harriman. We clocked 19 miles exactly to Harriman. The uphill is not super intense but is uphill so the way back was super fun and easy! We stopped in Monroe on the way back to Middleport. 38 miles in total ALL PAVED and 99.5 % trail. Excellent. Little weird spot right before Goshen as the trail ends abruptly with no signs. Head into the main town of Goshen and turn right at the wine store and you’ll be back on track!

Parks to Ports Greenway Trail

no lighting along trails

September, 2021 by bradthelaw

I have walked biked and jogged along greenway trails in Hauppauge along 347 from route 111 to Terry Road numerous times. Lately i run at night as do several others who i see along the trails. I have never seen the giant solar lights along the trail come on. The bus stop lights are on but the lamposts are never on and the paths are very dark I use a flashlight but others don't and it can be dangerous with debris along the pathway. I can't be the only one who as complained because it seems that since its inception they have never worked and i don't know why it took so long fpr me to complain. Concerned runner, Thank you

Worth Biking

September, 2021 by mdnkcn

We biked the newly completed Under Mountain Road to Millerton. We have biked the other completed sections in the past and this newly completed section does not disappoint . Very scenic and easy ride with our hybrid bikes.
