Historic Bridgeport Walking Trail

Bridgeport Walking Trail-February 2018

February, 2018 by tltrumbull

We had a wonderful time walking the trail, seeing the old train depot and antique trains...but, our greatest thrill was encountering an active freight train on the parallel train tracks while crossing the beautiful pedestrian bridge this morning. The very friendly Conductors gave us several nice whistle blows and we enjoyed waving back at them. The walk across the Tennessee River on the old train trestle was a truly beautiful experience. Many thanks to all in Bridgeport.

Gateway Greenway

Good for Walking, Not So Good for Bikes

February, 2017 by rmheeth

This Greenway is really a path around a city park which contains a nice, extensive Memorial to Veterans. There is a nice parking lot near the middle of the trail. The greenway goes by the railroad track and under the highway overpass, going around the Veterans Memorial past various displays, memorials and extensive fountains. It is a short but great walk. For bikes, however, it is not so great. Many of the sidewalks are rather narrow, weaving around the memorials. I found no signage identifying it as a greenway or path but it is so short and in a compact area, you really can't get lost. I will go back for the walk but will leave my bike at home.

Scary & Unsafe

December, 2016 by cleonard_tl

Use to walk the Thompson Lane Trail Head often. Now the trail is so overgrown and out of control, that it is scary for women to walk alone in fear of predators hiding in weeds and bushes. Just is not a safe place anymore.

Years ago I use to walk my dog on this trail every day and admire the beauty of the river, What happened? I visited the trail after leaving the area for a few years and I cant even see the river now it is so over grown! I would love to put together a clean up crew/group to revive the view of the river!

Very enjoyable trail

The trail run in my backyard on stones river , me my wife and the kids get on the trail several times every week , kids ride their segways or skate boards , we ride our bikes or walk , a lot of nice scneary areas on the river , beautiful flowers , trees , and abundant wild life , we've seen deer , turkey , snakes , fox , oposoms, raccoons , blue hearion crane, ducks , gees , a peacock, rabbits, beavers ....
To see all those animals right in the middle of the city is amazing
The trail is very easy for bike ride to since most of it flat .
You can also fish in stone river , I caught 9 lb bass and a lot of cat fish , canoeing is very nice on stone river , just get mosquitos repellant on hot summer evening .

Great for cycling newbies!

August, 2015 by traceyvs

My husband and I just started cycling two months ago. This is my favorite trail yet. It's not too difficult for someone like me who was woefully out of shape when I started riding regularly (now up to 20+ miles a week). It's absolutely beautiful and provides plenty of much needed shade when it's 95 degrees (like it's been for us). Highly recommended trail.

Nice view of the river; needs clarification

July, 2014 by kansaskraze

Nice views of the river along the trail bridge, goes through some sketchy parts of town. Stick to the outer left trail when you enter the Old Fort Park White River Battlefield or else you will get confused and possibly lost. (Weird gravel trail at the end of one of the trail extensions.) Needs signs showing main route.

Old Railroad Bed Trail

Bless the Land Trust

May, 2014 by rocketcitymel

I have been walking these trails since before the Land Trust purchased and saved this green space from development. It is lovely and peaceful and connects to the Monte Sano State Park.

Actually, you can get back to the original parking lot on the Toll Gate Trail, too bad the previous poster did not have a trail map or ask someone. You don't have to go out on the road at any time, and most everyone on these trails is happy to help other hikers.

Little Cove Road Greenway

Enjoyable leg of a triple trail suite!

February, 2014 by crowculbertson

I had ridden Big Cove Greenway and Flint River Greenway from Hays Reserve but went back in for the third leg. I started at Hays Preserve and rode up Big Cove to Old US 431 and US 431. From there I rode out Little Cove and back then on up Big Cove and back to Hays Preserve then down Flint River and back. Little Cove trail travels past lovely lakes and well kept neighborhoods. A Hampton Cove golf course is on the other side of Old 431. Wonderful addition. Loved the experience. Wished for Bham (my home town) to have the foresight to make something like this happen. Come on Bham!
