K&T Trail Riverside Cleanup

Event Description

United by Blue is teaming up with honeygrow, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Philadelphia Water Department and Delaware River City Corporation for a cleanup of the Delaware River in celebration of Love your Park day, a city-wide initiative to beautify Philly Parks! The Delaware River has been a symbol of Philadelphia from our city's beginnings through today. It's provided natural resources, served as recreation to the citizens, and promoted efficient industry and trade. As industry developed along the Delaware River, the public's access to the waterfront became limited and therefore in many areas of the city there is a disconnect between the people and the river. Spanning from Pulaski Park (Port Richmond) to Glen Foerd (Torresdale), the North Delaware River Greenway is a vision for a new Delaware River waterfront. This Greenway is a part of the larger East Coast Greenway, and it is serving to bridge the gap, reconnecting Philadelphians to the Delaware River. Unfortunately, trash and debris from the city, often wash up on the shore and get stuck in the trees and rocks along the river's edge, creating an unsavory scene for visitors, and endangering the birds, fish, and other wildlife that need the river for survival. In celebration of Love your Park, please help us clean the Delaware River along the K & T trail, and continue the conservation efforts of the North Delaware River Greenway! United by Blue will provide all cleanup supplies, and honeygrow will have snacks for each volunteer before the cleanup. After the cleanup, at noon, volunteers are invited to stay and help the Friends of Lardner's Point Park in their shoreline restoration project. They will be working to rescue and reintroduce native plants throughout the the park and along the river bank. The project is also a part of the Love your Park events.
