The Atlanta Road Path skirts the western border of Dobbins Air Reserve Base in the northwestern suburbs of Atlanta. The paved path begins in the Belmont Hills subdivision of Smyrna and heads north 2.5 miles towards Marietta. It parallels its namesake road with an active railroad along its eastern side and busy commercial areas along its western flank.
At its southern end sits the former Belmont Hills Shopping Center, built in 1954 and once one of the largest shopping centers in the South before it fell into decline. The area is now occupied by a new elementary school, housing, restaurants and other small businesses in place, as the space evolves in its mixed-use development.
There is no designated parking for this trail.
Atlanta Road Path travels along Atlanta Road beginning at Windy Hill Road and ends near the Dobbins Credit Union. Unfortunately, it does not yet continue all the way to Marietta. It's a nice transportation path, with a few walkers at certain times of the day. I regularly ride it to work in good weather. The path runs parallel beside a busy railroad. Atlanta Road has heavy traffic these days and between the traffic noise and the railroad noise, it's not very tranquil. However, it does provide a much needed bike path to get you off the highway between Smyrna and Marietta.
