Running through the Quaker Heights and adjacent neighborhoods in western Albuquerque, the Atrisco Trail provides a short but useful paved pathway that provides a great recreational option for residents near the trail. The trail follows a stretch of Atrisco Drive, starting in the north just east of Unser Boulevard (and the lengthy Unser Boulevard Trail), and coursing south along the roadside until it reaches St. Joseph's Drive - across the street, you can continue your journey west and south along the Ladera Dam Trail.
While far from the most scenic of trails, the trail does offer a fence-lined corridor interspersed with desert shrubs and trees, with landscaping giving the trail some separation from the roadway. To the west, trail users are afforded plentiful views of the open space that forms part of the Petroglyph National Monument, a nice natural contrast to the suburban surroundings to the east. A pleasant surprise tucked away on the edges of crowded subdivisions, the Atrisco Trail gives residents both off-road transportation and recreation options, forming a nice link the city's sprawling trail network.
No dedicated trail parking is available; trail users may be able to find parking nearby on-street or at local businesses and churches - be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
