The Ballenger creek Linear Trail is a 4.2 mile greenway in Frederick County Maryland. Constructed by both local developers and the county government, whose goal was to connect the community, the trail and short spur trails offer access to hotels, businesses, local parks, schools, and developments.
Starting at the Ballenger Creek Park, which has sports fields, a dog park, playground, community garden and parking, the trail then shares the sidewalk along Ballenger Creek Pike for nearly a mile, and passes by Tuscarora High School.
For nearly 2 miles, the trail runs uninterrupted along Ballenger Creek. there are several spur trails along this section that give trail users access to local subdivisions and the Ballenger Creek Elementary School.
The final section of the trail continues along Ballenger Creek until reaching Buckeystown Pike, where there is a Home2 and Homewood Suites Hotel.
At both endpoints of the trail, Ballenger Creek Park and at Buckeystown Pike, there are several parking lots near each trailhead. See TrailLink Map for more information.
Most of this trail is not along streets. We often ride this trail round trip from Ballenger Creek Park to the other end which is near Dunkin Donuts. We often see deer. There are two bridges over Ballenger Creek, and an underpass at New Design Road which keeps trail users away from traffic. There are a few air pump and tool stands along the trail. The western half mile is on sidewalk along the road, with traffic light protection for crossing.
