The Brush Hollow Cross-Country Trail, located within the Allegheny National forest, offers three stacked loops with a variety of hiking and skiing opportunities at a rangte of difficulty levels. This trail is not groomed. The trail starts out on a railroad grade along Big Mill Creek and is marked with blue diamonds.
This trail also connects to the Mill Creek Trail, which in turn meets the Twin Lakes Trail. The twin Lakes Trail offers access to the Twin Lakes Recreation Area for camping, swimming and picnicking. These trails are marked with gray diamonds.
The Brush Hollow Cross-Country Trail is located within the Allegheny National Forest. A trailhead and parking is available on SR 948, north of Ridgway. The trailhead is plowed in the winter.
Went on a hike with a couple friends.
Nice and peaceful.
Lots of Birch, Beech, Maple, Hemlock trees, and I'm sure others.
It was mostly those listed tho.
There were a few trees down from windy weather.
You'll have to climb over/under or go around.
Big Mill Creek is nice, and so is the little run that flows into it.
We didn't hear very many birds, and didn't see any deer or anything.
Maybe next time.
We took most of the trails;
Spent all morning and early afternoon there exploring.
We found the brick spring house, pretty neat.
I live close to this trail so I frequent often. There are multiple loops to accomidate different levels of skiing and hiking. It is very scenic since it runs along Mill Creek. There is also a connecting trail along a rail road grade to Twin Lake State Park. It is a little rough for skiing since the RR ties are still in the ground. Better to ski on the loops for easy access along the creek or tougher trails up and down the hills. Hunting in this area to wear orange in season. I think there is last harvest fishing in Mill Creek but you need to check this out on your own.
There is at least one geocache along the trail... HAVE FUN!
