In just 4 miles, visitors to the Cannon Township Trail are able to experience a variety of landscapes. The greenway begins in the Cannon Township Center, and travels through pine forests, grassy meadows and rich wetlands. From the Township Center, the route goes east along Belding Road, before pivoting and winding its way southward for most of its length. At historic Cannonsburg Cemetery (Sunfish Lake Avenue & Kreuter Road), the trail then begins to head east again, terminating at the Townsend Park along Ramsdell Drive.
The trail is paved, with two boardwalks above the wetlands and a bridge over Armstrong Creek. A one mile singletrack mountain-biking trail begins the end of the Cannon Township Trail, and loops within Townsend Park property.
There are two trailheads for this greenway. The first is the parking lot at the Cannon Township Center, located at 6878 Belding Rd NE, Rockford.
Parking as well as other amenities are also available at Townsend Park (8280 6 Mile Rd NE, Rockford). The trail begins at the north end of the park.
This trail is very beautiful!! A lot of shade and some gorgeous scenery. Ends up in cannonsburg by the Honeycreek and Grist Mill, if you start at M44 & Myers Lake road. Grist Mill and Honeycreek Inn has some wonderful food!!
Trail starts at the Cannon Two. office on M44 at Myers Lake Rd. A non-semi ride along M44 for 1/2 mile gets you to a neighborhood where you enter the real trail. From here a pleasant walk or ride through a quiet wooded area of the township. Hilly at times, some steep. Easy to hit 20+ mph on your bike with little effort. Trail takes you to Townsend Park and eventually to the quaint village of Cannonsburg. Avoid the ride along M44 by starting at this end and going north. Can be busy at times but not exceedingly. One of our favorite close-by bike ride and walking trails.
