The word Cavlandic hints at the route of this multiuse trail, which connects from the city of Cavalier to Icelandic State Park in northeast North Dakota. The asphalt trail sits on the north side of State Route 5 and extends 6.5 miles from point-to-point. The 912-acre Icelandic State Park sits on the shores of Lake Renwick and is popular for swimming, fishing, boating and camping. There are also four miles of hiking trails in the Gungloson State Nature Preserve, located within the park complex, that are groomed for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. Park visitors can ride into the city for refreshments after a day out in the park.
Parking is available at Icelandic State Park (13571 State Highway 5, Cavalier, ND). The closest parking to the trail is located at the park office near the Gunglason homestead. On the city side, the trail leads to the main street of Cavalier. Public parking is available along the street. There is also parking available at Leevers Foods (grocery store) at 501 Main Street, Cavalier.
