Columbus Riverwalk Description

The Columbus Riverwalk follows the Tombigbee Waterway in downtown Columbus, Mississippi. It is well lit, smooth, flat and wide, meandering through hardwood forests and fields with lovely views of the river. Benches, trash receptacles, restrooms and shelters are provided along the route. The trail is open all year and into the evening.

The Riverwalk comes to a bit of an abrupt end in the west before the woods just past the underpass below U.S. Highway 45/82, so trail users should plan for an out-and-back journey. Keep your eyes out for various waterfowl and wildlife along the way; a local gardening group has also installed a tranquil butterfly garden next to the trail.

On the eastern end, trail users can take a quick detour to cross the river via a historic swing bridge, which was built back in the 1920s but restored and converted for pedestrian use in 2013.

Parking and Trail Access

Columbus, MS, lies just south of US 82 at US 45. Follow signs to the visitor center, housed in the former home of Tennessee Williams. The trailhead is at Riverside Park a block from the visitor center.

Columbus Riverwalk Reviews

just what I needed

Working remotely and house sitting for my mom in Aberdeen. After a long week I needed to get out in Nature. This is an awesome well maintained trail. Only complaint is that you can’t sit in a bench and just look at the river. The undergrowth between the bench and the river is too thick. Other than that I did find some spots to get a great few. Highly recommend.

Columbus Riverwalk

Very nice concrete paved 2.25 mile trail.

Enjoyable

This is a very nice path by the river......when you can see it. I am always curious why paths or trails are built, but the scenery is so shrouded by over growing bushes that the views are nonexistent. The river can be seen in a few places which adds to the enjoyment of the path. Biking and walking would be the only way to traverse this path because of the the sand that completely obscures the concrete path in some areas. I wouldn't suggest inline skating here, although it would be perfect for it if it was cleaned off.

Nice short trail.

This trail is about 20 minutes from where we live. We've rode it a few times.
It's a nice short ride through the woods and along the river. It has a few short rolling hills.

It looks like they plan to make it longer some day, which would be nice.
