Running alongside the CSX railroad tracks on the north side of Doctors Lake Drive, this 10- to 12-foot-wide paved path offers joggers, walkers and bicyclists a scenic 4.5-mile long trail perfect for recreational and commuting use. Trees offer shade along the route that includes four pedestrian bridges, which cross over streams and parallel a culvert. The trail starts near the Clarke House and Park, a wooded park with a 1900 house on the National Register of Historic Places that includes a lake, gardens, a playground, a sand volleyball court, grills and pavilions for rent. The park is accessible for those using mobility aids, and has both accessible restrooms and parking spaces.
Parking is available at the northern end of the trail by the Clarke House Park (1039 Kingsley Ave). Accessible parking spaces are available.
Doctors Lake bike Trail was my first bike ride since I started biking again. It’s not very scenic except for the animated faces on some of the trees that line the trail. The people that were out either bike riding or jogging or just walking were all very friendly. It was nice to see other people out doing activities.
This is not a very scenic trail (no fields mountains or streams/waterways visible from it) but nevertheless a nice one to walk, jog or ride bicycle on as it is far from any large or crooked roadways. The trees that overlap parts of it make for nice shade. It is convenient if you live in Orange Park or nearby Fleming Island.
