Jacksonville is developing an interconnected 14-mile trail system called the Emerald Necklace. Portions of the route are already on the ground, like the Southbank Riverwalk, which borders the St. John's River. Spanning a distance of just over a mile, the hard-surface pathway begins at the Friendship Fountain, a popular attraction which sends water up to 100 feet in the air. Near this west end of the trail, you'll find the marina and Museum of Science and History. From there, the trail heads east to Prudential Drive, skirting hotels and restaurants along the river's southern shore.
On-street parking is available along Riverplace Boulevard, which is about a block south of the trail.
