The East West Trail follows an electric utility corridor for more than 2 arrow-straight miles through Kentwood, Michigan. The trail runs along a creek for a short distance and features some short bridges at the crossings. It passes close to houses and schools as it courses as the name describes—east to west—through the suburb south of Grand Rapids.
In the east, the trail connects to the developing Paul Henry-Thornapple Trail.
Parking for the East West Trail can be found at Valleywood Middle School on 50th Street or on neighborhood streets in Kentwood.
EWT is a good round trip experience for any locals and visitors looking for a good trail.
It's not very scenic, with power lines, water streams and community gardens making up most of the landscape.
Busy road crossings are somewhat common.
It's not too hilly, and the pavement is in very good shape.
I ride this trail often as it allows me to connect to the Paul Henry and the M6 trails making for a nice long ride. My only complaint is the bridges have quite a ridge at each end.
Beautiful new wood bridge and smooth, new pavement. Not the best views in terms of scenery but is a very enjoyable ride.
Like the other review posted, this trail was extended during spring of this year. It now runs from Division Avenue to the Paul Henry Thornapple Trail east of Kalamazoo Avenue. Where as before it only went from Division to Kalamazoo.
It has some small hills, but nothing steep or long compared to the M-6 trail.
Look for this trail to be extended another 0.75 mile to connect with the Paul Henry Thornapple Trail east of Kalamazoo Avenue. Construction is expected later this year including a boardwalk through marshland.
