Interurban Trail (Kent County) Description

The City of Wyoming’s Interurban Trail follows a former interurban railroad corridor through the heart of the community just south of Grand Rapids. Trains between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo ceased running on the line in 1929, but the corridor was preserved intact for overhead electricity transmission.

Two segments of the Interurban Trail are open in the utility corridor, but trail users can take residential Walton Avenue to bridge the gap. At the start of the southern segment, Kelloggsville Park offers a softball field, playground, tennis and basketball courts and restrooms. A short trail spur along Pine Hill Creek at the Interurban Trail’s southern end leads to Ideal Park, which features a lodge and picnic tables along Buck Creek.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Interurban Trail is available at Kelloggsville Park on 50th Street and Ideal Park on Crippen Avenue SW and Averill Avenue SW.

Interurban Trail (Kent County) Reviews

Yes, it's bumpy and a little disjointed, but I love that I can take it south from 36th Street to the M6 trail and avoid riding on major roads. I wish it could be extended north into downtown GR.

Almost like two different trails

This trail is in two sections. The two sections are connected by riding on well-marked Buchanan Ave to Crown St to Walton Ave and a short section of 50th St.

From just north of 44th St to just south of 36th St it has been redone and is nice and smooth and maintained. The section from Kelloggsville Park just south of 50th St southward is really bumpy and not well maintained. It is also very hard to cross 54th St at certain times of the day. I wish the south section would get resurfaced as it is a great almost connector to the M6 trail. The East West trail takes off east from the Kelloggsville Park parking area.

Bumpy Ride

Took the trail north from 60th and followed the signs up to 44th Street.(6 blocks past the East West trail entrance on Division.
It would be nice if there was a sign at 50th directing you to the go east to pick up the East West trail.
The path is paved but very bumpy.
