The Eau Claire Rail-Trail is a paved, mile-long route from Roosevelt Elementary School to the High Bridge over the Chippewa River in the city’s northwest neighborhoods. The former railroad bridge, dating back to 1898, spans nearly 900 feet; at 80 feet above the water, it offers dramatic views of downtown.
Future plans call for continuing the rail-trail on the east side of the river to downtown’s Phoenix Park, only a few blocks away. There, trail-goers could pick up the Chippewa River State Trail, which runs for nearly 40 miles.
