Flyway Trail is a community-driven startup committed to building a world-class trail in Buffalo County. The long-term goals for this project aim to increase community connectivity, support economic development and recreational tourism, and enhance the quality of life for future generations.
A of 2022, phase one is complete and open for use. The trail's northern end is located at the Town of Buffalo Park (54 WI-35, Fountain City) in Wisconsin. Following the Great River Road west, the trail curves south through wetlands via raised boardwalks and the Flyway Bridge. The trail crosses the Mississippi River, first by the historic Wagon Bridge to Latsch Island and then by the new Interstate bridge to mainland Minnesota. The trail's southern endpoint is located at the intersection of Highway 43 and W 4th Street in Winona, Minnesota.
Phase two seeks to connect the Flyway Trail to the Great River Trail in Wisconsin which currently terminates just three miles away from the end of phase one. Phase three will push north towards Fountain City, Cochrane and eventually Alma, Wisconsin.
Parking is available at the Town of Buffalo Park (54 WI-35, Fountain City) in Wisconsin and at the Latsch Island Recreational Area. There is street parking in Winona, Minnesota.
